Knicks edition, Steven Spielberg, Seth Rogen, Europeans experiencing the bounty of America
Hello, hope you’ve had a smooth week. I’ve been pretty busy so this is a lighter, but more fun edition of these links.

Loved this piece from (longtime New York sports fan) Katie Baker about Karl-Anthony Towns and the uniqueness of this particular team:
I could see the confusion on his face, and I felt it myself: Since when am I some kind of cheesy believer? And upon reflection, I think it happened in 2024, after the arrival of the Knicks’ bighearted big man and soft, gooey center: Karl-Anthony Towns.
“You’re never by yourself!” Towns yelled in the direction of Knicks captain Jalen Brunson during the happy chaos following Game 2 in San Antonio. The two teammates had just embraced after the Knicks eked out a sloppy win to take a 2-0 series lead back to Manhattan. “You’re never by yourself! I’m always with you! Step by step!”
This struck me as a bold thing to holler so publicly to the far less constitutionally effusive Brunson.
Interesting look at how the Knicks logo got designed, including alts they discarded.
Fun one about all the Knicks fans under a certain age (including a nice quote from a woman about her late father), which gives a general look at the city right now. Any clip you’re seeing — right up to reactions in the airport — is an accurate depiction of the vibe in the city right now.
Good interview with beloved Seth Rogen about marriage and drugs.
Bilge Ebiri did a massive oral history about Steven Spielberg’s career that really, really includes a lot of famous people (Tom Hanks, Goldie Hawn, George Lucas) and key players (his sister, Tony Kushner).
In terms of the good and true: Twitter right now is filled with dazed Europeans, like, eating Mexican food and going to Bass Pro Shops, and Americans saying things like “Rock Chalk Algeria,” which is the other nice thing happening. There are random sentences like: Team Iraq is staying at the Greenbrier. These two Germans are sort of hamming it up for the audience marveling at Alabama, Louisiana, etc., but his post with the fireworks at Auburn’s football stadium is my personal favorite.
In terms of vibes, a nice space.
Light book commentary
Very light, alas.
A note on all this
Thanks for subscribing. Hope you enjoy. The goal here is just to offer up some links you may have missed, and maybe the occasional commentary on something in politics or a book I may have read that you, the reader, might enjoy.
