Links for July 17th
Restoration videos, Liz Cheney, the nature of consent in pop culture now, baseball, and the actual link I meant to send last week
Hello, it’s not every day you see a baseball game where the visiting team scores 24 runs, and yet that’s the honor I had last night. Juan Soto did hit two home runs (fun), Fernando Tatís Jr. did steal a base and make some great plays (fun), some random San Diego player did hit for the cycle (pass), and the Padres uniforms looked as incredible in person as I had imagined.
Baseball and work are keeping the links a little light but primarily fun.
Links
Once again, I botched a link: Here was the actual one on reporters talking about the Biden White House.
I don’t watch restoration videos exactly like this but this tribute to a random guy who restores tools is exactly the satisfaction I derive from old-house-restoration-Instagram: “It’s a perpetual joy to watch someone who’s very good at something do it with extreme precision.”
This (relatively) recent Parul Sehgal review of a variety of books/shows/films exploring the nature of consent, as a culturally vague space, is really an interesting read.
A spectacular quote here, from Liz Cheney.
If you watched the England-Italy game, the Italian soccer players really do make that 🤌 gesture a lot.
This interview with Jazz Chisolm, the Marlins shortstop, is fun as hell. His grandmother taught him to play baseball!
Light book commentary
Light!
A note on all this
Thanks for subscribing. Hope you enjoy. The goal here is just to offer up some links you may have missed, and maybe the occasional commentary on something in politics or a book I may have read that you, the reader, might enjoy. If you have thoughts on any of this, hit me up at katherinemillernyc@gmail.com or just tweet at me.
